Kirk Bachman was born and raised in Southern California. He came up through the camera department, on staff with Sid Avery of The Avery Film Group. Kirk started shooting commercials in 1988 for Marc Chiat of Red Dog Films and Brent Thomas of Coppos Films and later Green Dot Films. Over the past 21 years he has photographed hundreds of projects with over 140 Director's such as Edward Zwick, Henry Sandbank, Peter Bloomfield, John St.Clair, Terry Wendell, Matthew Rolston and Wayne Isham.
Known as a car shooter, Kirk has photographed just about every car manufactured. Working in spot form and running footage, Kirk shot some of the first spots of NASCAR racing, working with Peter Bloomfield for Chevrolet. He is known for his motorsport spots for Dale Earnhardt and Dale Junior as well as Drag and Sprint car racing for MOPAR.
Kirk is also at home in the fashion world, lensing many spots for Vidal Sassoon, Pantene and Loreal Paris. Lighting some of the most beautiful women in the world, Jennifer Lopez, Rebecca Romijn, Heather Locklear, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Portia DeRossi, Brooke Shields, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Andie MacDowell, Milla Jovovich, and Vanessa Marcil to name a few.
Kirk is well versed in all current formats of filmmaking, 35, 16, 8mm, Photo-Sonics and has moved forward to include digital HD photography to his repertoire, as well as consulting on lighting for commercials done in the computer by Rhythm and Hues. He has manufactured many dollies, rigs and remote heads in his machine shop to tackle some technically challenging photographic situations. Kirk has worked in hundreds of cities in 14 countries and is at ease working with foreign crews. He is successful at working with large multiple camera crews and small “Run and gun” crew situations. He is at home shooting from both on the ground and in the air, as well as operating remote heads (wheels and Joystick) and the Russian Arm.
Kirk continues to expand his horizons as a cinematographer today. Throughout his career his problem solving and collaborative work ethic are the keys to his success. His calm and friendly manner and his “What ever it takes” attitude are welcomed by both the Producer and Director.
