ABBY DIX

Director/DP

Abby Dix began her career as a still photographer. Dubbed an “Art Director’s director”, she has shot a wide variety of images, from lifestyle shots of people celebrating daily life, to strong portraits that inform and inspire. She is the director of photography on most of her work, since her comfort with the camera allows her to express her vision more freely. Abby is happiest when she can combine dialogue and storytelling with strongly art-directed visuals.

One of Abby’s greatest strengths is working with on-camera talent. She has a terrific rapport with young talent and “tweens”. Abby’s warmth and low-key approach on the set make her a natural when coaxing the best performance out of real people and celebrities alike. She has directed numerous celebrities including Mohammed Ali, Joan Rivers, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, Oprah Winfrey, Rodney Dangerfield and many others.*

In addition to commercial work, Abby has shot documentaries in locations as remote as Inner Mongolia for Land’s End. She produced, directed, and lensed an award-winning documentary on foster children, “No Place to Call Home.” She is currently working on a documentary destined for the festival circuit.

Dix is one of the first women Director/DP’s in the industry, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from Women in Film. Abby divides her time between New York and Telluride Colorado.
